I want to go ice fishing this winter but I have never gone before and have I little knowledge on how to ice fish. I want to know what size auger to get. I plan on fishing for largemouth bass. Essentially — Really don't need too big of a hole, Ive been ice fishing my whole life and have never needed an auger bigger than 8". Just last weekend I was dragging 20" 4-5lb trout out of an 8" hole. Check your regs before cutting anything over 10" many states have limits on hole diameters. Most important part is keeping your line off the edge when fighting the fish. By the way 8" augers are way lighter, cheaper and punch through the ice like butter.
GOT OUT WITH MIKE TODAY ON SILVER LAKE FOR OUR 3RD ICEFISHING TRIP OF THE SEASON. THE BITE WAS TOUGH BUT WE ENDED UP WITH SOMEWHERE AROUND 40 HAND SIZED BULL . . .
